The Reality of Ozempic Without Insurance

Brand-name Ozempic costs about $1,000-$1,350 per month without insurance. For weight loss specifically (as opposed to diabetes), most insurance plans still will not cover it — even if you have insurance. So whether you are uninsured or just uncovered for this particular medication, you are in the same boat as millions of other people.

The good news: in 2026, there are legitimate ways to access semaglutide in Florida for a fraction of brand-name pricing.

Option 1: Compounded Semaglutide (Most Popular)

Compounding pharmacies can legally produce semaglutide while the FDA shortage designation remains active. This is the same molecule — semaglutide — prepared by a licensed 503B pharmacy at a lower cost because they are not paying for Novo Nordisk's brand markup.

Cost: $150-$400/month depending on dose and pharmacy.

How it works: A physician evaluates you (telehealth is fine in Florida), writes a prescription, and the compounding pharmacy ships it to your door. You inject it weekly, same as branded Wegovy.

Is it safe? When sourced from an FDA-registered 503B outsourcing facility, yes. These pharmacies are inspected and regulated. The risk comes from unregulated sources — do not buy semaglutide from random websites, med spas without physician oversight, or overseas.

The caveat: The FDA could end the shortage designation at any time, which would shut down compounded production. As of April 2026, it remains available. For more details, see our [compounded semaglutide guide](/blog/compounded-semaglutide-what-to-know).

Option 2: Novo Nordisk Savings Programs

Novo Nordisk runs savings programs for both Ozempic and Wegovy:

  • Wegovy savings card: Eligible patients may pay as little as $0-$500/month, but you need commercial insurance (even if it does not cover the drug specifically). Does not work for uninsured patients.
  • NovoCare patient assistance: For uninsured patients with household income under 400% of the federal poverty level. If you qualify, the medication may be free. Application process takes 2-4 weeks.

Bottom line: If you have no insurance at all and low income, NovoCare is worth applying to. Otherwise, compounded semaglutide is your most reliable path.

Option 3: Telehealth Weight Loss Clinics (Like Ours)

Florida telehealth practices — including Coral Health — can prescribe compounded semaglutide via virtual visits. This is the fastest path for most uninsured patients because:

  • No in-person visit required for GLP-1 prescriptions in Florida
  • No insurance needed (you are paying cash anyway)
  • Prescription shipped directly to you
  • Ongoing monitoring via telehealth

Our visits include the consultation, prescription, and dosing guidance. The medication cost is separate and goes directly to the pharmacy.

Option 4: Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drugs

Cost Plus Drugs does not currently carry injectable semaglutide, but they do carry some oral weight loss medications at reduced pricing. Worth checking if you are exploring alternatives to GLP-1s.

Option 5: Clinical Trials

The University of Florida, University of Miami, and several Florida research sites run obesity trials that provide GLP-1 medications at no cost. You will need to meet specific criteria and commit to the study protocol, but if you qualify, it is a legitimate free option. Search ClinicalTrials.gov for "semaglutide" filtered to Florida locations.

What NOT to Do

  • Do not buy from overseas pharmacies. You have no guarantee of what is in the vial.
  • Do not use "research peptide" sites. These are labeled "not for human consumption" for a reason — no quality control.
  • Do not share someone else's prescription. Dosing matters. Starting at the wrong dose causes severe nausea and potential complications.
  • Do not trust social media sellers. If someone is selling semaglutide through Instagram DMs, walk away.

The January 2027 Price Drop

Novo Nordisk announced they are reducing list prices for Wegovy and Ozempic effective January 2027 — down to approximately $675/month. That is still expensive without insurance, but it narrows the gap with compounded options. If you can wait and your weight situation is not urgent, this may change the math.

If your weight is actively causing health problems now, waiting 8+ months is not a great medical decision. Start with compounded semaglutide today and reassess when pricing changes.
